CPU, memory and disk gauges that turn crimson over your limits, and a table of every running process with its security tier.
Kavan · for Windows
Kavan watches your Windows system, explains what is using it up, and lets you or Claude close the right program, with a safety engine that can never touch the parts of Windows that keep it running.
Windows 10 and 11 · Free · Runs entirely on your PC

How it works
Kavan reads CPU, memory and disk every two seconds and records the history, even with the window closed.
When something spikes, it records which program was using the most, and shows it on a graph.
You confirm each kill in the app, or ask Claude. Kavan will not end anything on its own.
What you get
CPU, memory and disk gauges that turn crimson over your limits, and a table of every running process with its security tier.
Every alert saved with when it started, how high it went, and what was using the most. Filter by date, type and severity.
Charts from one hour to seven days. Drag to zoom into a spike. Gaps are shown as gaps, never joined across.
End the wrong program by mistake and restore it in one click, from the toast or from Recently Killed.
Mark programs Kavan must never end, even if you or Claude ask, and programs it should record quietly without alerting.
Ask Claude to find what's slow and clean it up. Seven tools, and every kill still needs your confirmation.
Safety
Every process is sorted into one of four tiers before anything can be done to it. The tier decides what is allowed.
System. Windows' own processes. They can never be ended, by you or by Claude, and the block sits in front of the operating-system call itself.
Essential. Apps you work in, like your editor and browser. A clear warning, then your confirmation.
Optional. Background programs. Safe to end if you need the resources.
Unverified. An unknown program using lots of CPU with no window. Flagged as suspicious.
Two steps to kill. A kill is staged, then confirmed. The confirmation expires after five minutes and works for one program once.
Everything is logged. Every kill, block and restore is written to a local audit log.
Nothing leaves your PC. No cloud, no account, no API key, no telemetry. The app talks only to itself on your machine, and refuses requests from web pages.
Checked by 641 backend tests and 81 desktop tests at version 2.1.5.

With Claude
If you use Claude Desktop, Claude can look at your system and propose what to close. It proposes, you confirm, and Kavan blocks anything in Tier 1.
An example conversation
My laptop is lagging. What's going on?
Chrome is using 2.1 GB and a background updater is at 38% CPU with no window. I'd suggest closing the updater. Want me to?
Yes.
Done. It freed 310 MB. If you need it back, I can restore it.
And when it should say no
Close explorer.exe
That's a protected Windows process. Kavan won't end it.
These conversations are illustrations, not recordings. The desktop app works fully without Claude.
Requirements
Kavan is not a one-click install yet. The background service runs from a Python environment that you set up once.
Download
One download for the desktop app. The background service is set up once, as described below.
Windows may warn that the app is from an unknown publisher, because it is not code-signed yet. Choose “More info” then “Run anyway” if you trust the source.

Install Python 3.11 or newer, if you do not have it.
Get the mcp-server folder from the repository. In a terminal inside it, set up its Python environment:
python -m venv venv
.\venv\Scripts\Activate.ps1
pip install -r requirements.txtOpen Kavan, go to Settings, and under Startup choose that folder as the Backend location.
Open %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json and add this, with the paths changed to where mcp-server is on your PC:
{
"mcpServers": {
"KavanMCP": {
"command": "C:\\path\\to\\KavanMCP\\mcp-server\\venv\\Scripts\\python.exe",
"args": [
"C:\\path\\to\\KavanMCP\\mcp-server\\main.py"
]
}
}
}Restart Claude Desktop. The Kavan tools appear automatically.
Remove Kavan from Windows Settings, under Apps. Its history and settings are stored in the mcp-server/data folder, so delete that folder too if you want them gone.
